THE SUBLIMITY FIRE DISTRICT

The Sublimity Fire District is a political subdivision of Marion County, chartered under the authority granted by the Oregon State Constitution and governed by an elected board of five directors.

The 44-square mile Sublimity Fire District includes the incorporated limits of the City of Sublimity, its urban growth boundary and the rural area surrounding it. Some 4000 residents depend on the wide variety of services offered by the fire district.

Within the city limits, growth is a significant factor. Residential growth is ongoing. The city has approximately 75 developable acres within its limits. Several large tracts have not yet been developed.

Currently, Sublimity Fire District has 18 volunteers who respond out of two fire stations: Station #51 (headquarters) and Station #52 (a sub-station northeast of the City of Sublimity).  Three of the volunteers are unpaid resident interns who live at the station.  Paid staff includes a full-time fire chief and office administrator. 

FACILITIES/APPARATUS

Station 51
Built in 1989, the station is a metal truss/metal clad building consisting of five apparatus bays, a hose storage room, SBCA repair/compressor area, mezzanine storage area, side bay for maintenance that includes a "pit" for undercarriage access. A significant remodel was completed in late summer of 2000, adding over 2400 sq. ft, including a large training room, three offices, remodeled kitchen, lounge and reception area. In the winter of 2001, the upstairs was remodeled to permit private sleeping areas for up to six resident interns, with an extra bedroom. There is also a sizeable lounge and a bathroom upstairs.

Chief 501 - 2004 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4x4. Used for day to day administrative purposes and personnel transport.

Command 51 - 2009 Ford Expedition command vehicle. Carries assorted incident command equipment and radios.

Engine 51 - Pumper- 2000 International Navistar built by H & W Emergency Vehicles. 1250 gpm pump. 1000-gallon tank. Five-person enclosed cab with five seat mounted MSA 4500 psi Ultralite SCBA in the cab. Front remote nozzle. Preconnected attack lines. 5" lay bed. PPV Fan, Fixed generator, various appliances/equip.

Engine 50 - 1993 International Navistar built by H & W Emergency Vehicles. 1250 gpm pump. 1000 Gal. tank. Five-person enclosed cab with 5 seat mounted MSA 4500 psi Ultralite SCBA in the cab. Front remote nozzle. Preconnected attack lines. 5" lay bed. PPV Fan, Fixed generator, various appliances/equip.

Brush 51 - 1990 GMC. Equipped with a 750-gallon tank, and a 250 gpm pump, along with the usual complement of hose and hand tools.

Rescue 51 - 2008 Ford F-550. Brush/Rescue combination vehicle.  Equipped with a 400-gallon tank, 150 gpm pump, automotive extrication equipment, assorted EMS equipment, assorted wildland equipment. Four-person cab with three 4500 psi seat-mounted airpacks.

Utility 51 - 1996 Chevrolet pickup 4x4. Used for miscellaneous tasks.

Station 52

This building was dramatically remodeled in the summer of 2001, adding one bay to the two existing bays. In addition, there is now running water, a restroom, an office, insulation, new siding and paint.

Engine 52 - Pumper- 1984 Ford 9000 Diesel-powered Louisville, built by Western States Fire Apparatus. 1000 gpm pump. 1000-gallon tank. Equipped with a split hose bed containing 3" and 5" hose, preconnect handlines, four MSA 4500 psi Ultralite SCBA and various appliances/equip.

Rescue 52 - 1999 Ford F-550. Built by Braun of Chehalis, Washington. Carries light rescue equipment, medical treatment equipment and support equipment, such as a cascade system, four 4500 psi SCBA and drinking water.

Tender 52 - 2002 Central States water tender. Sterling Chassis. 3000-gallon tank, 500 gpm pump, 3000-gallon porta tank.

ALARMS

Sublimity Fire District responds to fire, medical, hazardous materials and other calls for service. Average call volume over the past four years is 476 alarms/year.

MUTUAL/AUTOMATIC AID RESPONSE

Automatic mutual response has been agreed upon between Sublimity Fire District and the Stayton, Silverton, Scio, Drakes Crossing and Aumsville fire districts. These are reciprocal agreements.

In addition to this, mutual aid is available from the Oregon Department of Forestry (Clackamas/Marion District), especially for those areas on the eastern border of the district that encroach on ODF lands.

AMBULANCE TRANSPORT

EMS patients are transported by ground ambulance operated out of Santiam Memorial Hospital, a Level IV Trauma center, located in Stayton. Santiam Ambulance Service is administered by Adam Maurer.

DISPATCH

Dispatching is a contracted service from the Santiam Canyon Communications Center. The center operates as a 190-intergovernmental agency with a user board consisting of one member from each of the organizations it serves. Rob Poirier is the current director.
